On Tuesday night, Wightman, 28, won the world championship by a razor-thin margin in Eugene. His father and coach Geoff announced at Hayward Field.
He defeated Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the Olympic champion, and Mohamed Katir of Spain to win in three minutes, 29.23 seconds.

Geoff served as the stadium announcer at the 2019 World Doha, the 2017 London Olympics, the New York Marathon, and other events. He worked full-time at Scottish Athletics and then United Kingdom Athletics until 2016.

Susan and Geoff Wightman are happily married. Jake, Sam, and Martha, their twin sons, make up their family of three. She is the twin sister of 1988 World Cross Country silver medalist Angela Tooby and was born in Woolhope, Herefordshire, England.
British long-distance runner Susan is now retired. She competed for Wales and placed sixth in the 10,000-meter race at the Commonwealth Games in 1986.
When she placed 12th in the marathon at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, she established her personal best of 2:31:33.
