Sunder and Narender were both sub-inspectors at the Delhi police station in Hari Nagar at the time of the event in October 2006; Sunder was an inspector. On October 20 at around 6:30 AM, someone called the police station and claimed to have dropped a dead body outside Delhi’s Tihar Jail. Sunder discussed the discovery of the body and the discovery of a letter that ridiculed and denigrated the police on the program.
The same individual called again a few hours later to check on the status of the case. He told Sunder that more dead bodies will crop up in the coming days and pushed the policeman to apprehend him. The police obtained a composite sketch based on the description from the owner of the public telephone service after tracing the source of the calls throughout the inquiry.
In the months that followed, two additional deaths were discovered while investigators investigated into Balbir Singh, a constable assigned to watch at the gate where the bodies were deposited. According to the drama, the murderer confessed over the phone that Balbir had previously tortured him while he was a prisoner. Days after the third victim was discovered in May 2007, Narender got a tip about a person who fit the killer’s description going to a doctor in Azadpur, Delhi. This portion of the inquiry was led by Narender, and they eventually identified the murderer as Chandrakant Jha, a father of five children.
The authorities then determined Chandrakant’s potential location as Alipur, Delhi, using cell tower information. They started looking for a cart with a motor after gathering information from witnesses. When Narender discovered it outside one of the homes, Chandrakant was eventually taken into custody there. The murderer gave a lengthy confession to the crimes shortly after, only to later retract it in court.
