James Newhall and Margaret Newhall Car Accident: Two killed in Salem, MA Highland Ave. car accident; Multiple people injured.

According to Salem police department, officers, Fire and ambulance responded to the vicinity of 347 Highland Avenue on the report of a multiple car accident with two fatalities and multiple people injured at approximately 4:28 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.

Police and fire departments from surrounding communities responded to provide assistance with extraction, traffic control and establish detour routes, police said.

Preliminary investigations revealed, a white Ford Focus, operated by Mr. James Newhall of Marblehead was traveling north in the southbound lane of Highland Avenue, causing a head-on collision with another vehicle and resulting in several other vehicles crashing.

91-year-old James Newhall and 55-year-old Margaret Newhall both of Marblehead were pronounced dead at the scene.

A male passenger in the vehicle was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Two other persons from vehicles involved in the incident were also transported to the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police with assistance of the Salem Police Department.
