Geoff Wightman is the proud father of Jake Wightman, the middle-distance runner from Nottingham, England.
Jake’s father, Geoff, is a sports commentator who used to be a marathon runner. He used to run a marathon in 2 hours and 13 minutes and is now his son’s coach.
Wightman Sr competed in the 1990 Commonwealth Games, and his son has been described as “meticulous.”
Jake’s mother, Susan, is a former long-distance runner from the United Kingdom. In the 10,000 meters, she finished sixth for Wales at the Commonwealth Games in 1986.
Susan set a personal best of 2:31:33 when she finished 12th in the marathon at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. In the 1988 Great North Run, she ran 69:46 to finish second behind Greta Waitz, becoming the first British woman to run a sub-70-minute half-marathon.
Is Jake Wightman Born To Scottish Dad? His Parents
Jake Wightman was born to Geoff and Susan Tooby, but we are not sure if his father is Scottish or not.
Both his parents are former athletes, with Geoff competing in the marathon at the Commonwealth Games and European Championships and Susan representing Team GB in the same event at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
When Geoff began commentating on his 10-year-old son’s school sports days, he had no idea where the journey would take them both.
“That’s my son, and he’s a world champion!” exclaimed Geoff. The emotionally proud father stated that he had been preparing his son for this moment. ‘Because my wife is his PE teacher, I’ve been doing his school sports day since he was about 11 years old,’ he explained.
