Who Is Gandhian Gopinathan Nair?
Padmanabha Pillai Gopinathan Nair was an Indian social worker, a supporter of Mahatma Gandhi, an activist for Indian independence, and the chairman of the Mahatma Gandhi National Memorial Trust, also known as Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, a trust run by the Indian government. Along with Vinoba Bhave, he supported the Bhoodan and Gramdan movements by taking part in the 1942 Quit India movement. As a member of Mahatma Gandhi’s Construction Movement, he was the one who started the camp movement, a student programme. He received several awards, including the Jamnalal Bajaj Award. For his achievements to society, the Indian government bestowed upon him the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour, in 2016.

Gandhian Gopinathan, who had been receiving treatment for age-related illnesses for the previous two weeks, passed away at around 8.45 p.m. at a private hospital in Neyyattinkara.
