Deadpool marked a bold new direction for the superhero film genre, with an increase in profanity and a lot of intense, super-violent action. The film leans hard into the R-rated action, featuring a lot of scenes of Wilson beating his adversaries past the point of no return. Reynolds himself was very involved in the making of Deadpool, acting as a producer as well as the star.
What did Ryan Reynolds recently say about stepping back from doing stunt work?
Reynolds went all-in on the stunt work, working out hard to get in fighting shape—both for Deadpool and for the sequel, Deadpool 2, which was released in 2018. While Deadpool 3 is currently in pre-production, the actor recently revealed that he plans to take a step back from the more intense action sequences that might be featured. In an interview with Variety, Reynolds noted that he’s no longer able to handle the tough stunt work. As reported by IndieWire, Reynolds said “After I turned 35, being thrown onto cement wasn’t hilarious anymore: It had been upgraded to hell. You’re not allowed to eat Advil like cereal. Things start to hurt.”
Reynolds admitted that while he appreciates “physicality” in movies, he plans to let the stunt artists take over the heavy lifting on future action projects. “I think it’s important to do as much of it yourself as you can, but I’ll step aside when there’s something that’s just too gnarly and there’s a trained professional ready to go,” the actor said.
What do fans know about ‘Deadpool 3’?
Certainly, fans won’t mind too much that Reynolds will be taking a backseat in some of the more intense stunts on Deadpool 3. The film is highly-anticipated among comic book fans, and while Deadpool 3 was confirmed as far back as 2019, there’s still very little that is known about the project. According to CNN, the film will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it will be as raunchy as previous installments, with an “R” rating.
For now, not much else is known. And with Reynolds and the rest of the showrunners at Marvel remaining mum, it could be quite some time before pop culture fans learn any more about the third installment in the Deadpool film universe.
