Buronde Agnes Death: A woman was killed in a hit-and-run by an ambulance driver in Mukwano Roundabout in Kampala
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police, CCTV captures errant ambulance driver identified in Mukwano Roundabout hit and-run fatal accident.
Police in Kampala has arrested an errant ambulance driver involved in a hit and-run fatal accident at Mukwano Roundabout.
Police said the victim identified as 48-year-old Buronde Agnes a resident of Wabigalo was struck from behind and thrown off into a sewage trench at around 9:20am on Friday May 6, by an ambulance belonging to Kibuli Muslim Hospital along Mukwano Access road in Kampala City Centre.
The ambulance driver, Mayanja Mohammed then sped off and was chased by the pedestrians and bodaboda riders hence prompting him to stop and rush the victim for first aid.
The woman was rushed to Kibuli Muslim Hospital where the condition worsened and referred to Mulago Hospital Causality Ward. Sadly, despite best efforts of paramedics, victim was pronounced dead on arrival at Mulago.
The driver of the ambulance then made a phone call to the deceased family, informed them of their relative that had been knocked by an unknown hit and run vehicle.
This prompted the deceased’s family to seek for guidance from Traffic investigators to ascertain the cause of her death.
Police CCTV cameras were able to identify the vehicle involved in the fatal accident as UBA 784U belonging to Kibuli Muslim Hospital using the Automatic Number-Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera located at Yusuf Lule Road and the same was later seen arriving at Mulago Casuality Ward.
Police says, the ambulance driver was later traced, arrested and detained at CPS Kampala and vehicle impounded pending further inquiries.
