‘The Vampire Diaries’ Review: A Hairy Secret is Revealed in ‘Brave New World’

Things are about to get a lot more interesting on The Vampire Diaries, and Katherine’s “message” looks to be just the start of the troubles. Damon got an offer to lead the council regarding the vampires from Carol Lockwood, and while in Carol’s home, he also got a hint about the Lockwood family secret – a secret that surprisingly is even more secret than I would have suspected.

I thought the vampires would have known about the existence of werewolves, but that appears not to be the case. When Stefan cracked a joke about them being Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or werewolves, Damon replied by saying that this was “the real world” and that those things weren’t real. Now it’s possible that the Salvatores are out of the loop, but it’s even more intriguing to consider that these two supernatural societies are unaware of one another.

‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 2 Premiere Review: More Love, Blood and Heartache

I wonder if Nina Dobrev is getting double the pay for her work on The Vampire Diaries this season. As we saw last time, the infamous Katherine has returned, and she’s bound to cause all sorts of havoc walking around looking just like Elena. First up, apparently, is undoing all the work that Stefan and Elena have done to bring out Damon’s humanity. Sure, he’s spent 145 years wallowing in depravity, violence and soulless evil behavior, but he’s turned over a new leaf, right? He has feelings for Elena, now. The important part of that statement is that he has feelings. The “for Elena” part is a bit of a problem.

Before we go any further, I want to say that I’m a big fan of the show’s new logo. The old one looked like a hand-drawn piece of crap, and this one has a much more elegant flair. I know it may seem like a little thing, but a show’s logo and title presentation can really help to set the tone and the mood. This one fits much better with the gothic romance of the series.

Morning Blast: ‘Stargate Universe,’ ‘The Dark Tower,’ ‘Smallville,’ ‘Fringe,’ and More

OMFGeez! It feels so good to be surfing the Internets again! An evil, evil beastie called Tropical Storm Hermine blew threw my town this week and killed my connex for almost two days. Two days! That’s like centuries for someone who depends on this infinite series of tubes to make a living. But the modem lights are flashing again and all is right with the world, so let’s get back to business — here’s all the hot nerd TV news you need to know about this mornin’:

- I’m counting the days until David Hewlett reprises the role of Rodney McKay on next season of Stargate Universe. Hewlett and Robert Picardo (Richard Woolsey) will guest star on episode 15 of season 2, airing sometime in the second half of 2011. In a new interview, Hewlett says the writers have done a “really good job” of working McKay and Woolsey into the ep. [Gateworld]

- And speaking of SGU, here are a bunch of photos from the season 2 premiere, airing Sept. 28. [Spoiler TV]

- Universal is making a movie trilogy and a TV show based on Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series. The films and the show will be closely linked, and Ron Howard has signed to direct the first flick and the show’s first season. [THR]

- Aquaman, Aka “that guy who talks to fish,” is heading back to Smallville this season. Alan Ritchson will reprise the role. [Ausiello]
