Trek Tuesdays: When Zombie Trekkies Attack!

Star Trek! It’s awesome! OK, sometimes it’s crap (I’m looking at you, ‘Insurrection’), but sometimes it’s the best thing ever (Remember Senator Vreenak’s intense hate of faaaaaakes!?). Hopefully there’s enough Star Trek awesomeness in the world to last us a very, very long time, because every Tuesday, TV DeathRay will celebrate the franchise by revisiting one of our favorite episodes, characters or moments. This week, it’s a twist on the fan fic craze …

In anticipation of our full review of Kevin David Anderson’s and Sam Stall’s Night of the Living Trekkies, here’s the amazing trailer for the book that got our attention last week. Enjoy:

This week, we learn just how dangerous Mr. Spock’s hands can be.

What can I say? It’s premiere week! We’re swamped and looking for a quick and easy laugh. Thankfully, this German TV commercial featuring Mr. Spock giving his date the Vulcan version of a roofie did the trick!

Head back next Tuesday when we dive into Night of the Living Trekkies.

We’re back with more sugary sweet nerd TV links for your brainy brain. Enjoy!

  • The bright, talented and funny (why, of course she is) Jewel Staite blogs about Dragon Con, Firefly, and how David Hewlett is not unlike a mini-horse.
  • What would happen if Breaking Bad suddenly became a sitcom? Why, absolute hilarity, of course.
  • Wanna see 20 or so random pictures of Doctor Who buddies Karen Gillan and Matt Smith. Yeah, we know ya do.

Hey there, casual browser and/or DeathRay fan, let’s take a sec to devour some of the spectacular nerd TV-related stuff on the Internets this week …

  • Did you know that Communitys Donald Glover wrote a spec script for The Simpsons or that there’s a group of crazy nerds campaigning to get him to play Goldie Wilson in a Back to the Future musical? Learn about all that and more with a great Glover interview on the latest Nerdist podcast.
  • I know we posted about these yesterday, but here’s another link to the new Smallville teasers featuring the Super Suit and more goodies.
  • Tiny Entourage is so wrong and so boring and so unfunny that is has to be seen.
  • I love Todd Haynes movies, and I love the original Mildred Pierce flick, so, yes, I’m digging this trailer for the HBO update starring Kate Winslet.

Trek Tuesday: ‘Hey Bones, Look What I Found!’

This week … well … just read …

No, that’s not a still of a digitally airbrushed William Shatner filming a guest spot for True Blood – it’s an actual shot from the original Star Trek series! I’m hoping some of you hardcore Trekkers can tell me the name of the episode this pic was taken from, and … er … maybe you can explain why Captain Kirk seems to be gripping a giant rock penis. Did he steal it from that dude who looks like Clem from Buffy in the background? He did, didn’t he. Blast you, James Kirk, Alien Penis Snatcher!

As we all know, Star Trek is brilliant, but it’s easy to see why many people think it’s the campiest thing that ever existed.

Trek Tuesday: Revisiting Deep Space Nine’s ‘The Visitor’

This week, we take a look at the 1995 ‘Deep Space Nine’ episode ‘The Visitor.’

TV never makes me cry: not a squirt during the Lost finale or even a sniffle when Buffy sacrificed herself to save the world. But you’d have to be a Skynet-brand deathbot to keep from tearing up while watching ‘The Visitor,’ one of the best and most emotional episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

This episode turned me into a DS9 fan for life. It’s one of the reasons why DS9 is my favorite Star Trek series of all time. I know some Trek fans complain that the show is too soapy, but DS9 is much, much more than a soap opera set in space. It’s the warmest, smartest, and most moving show in the franchise.

Morning Blast: George Takei on ‘Big Bang,’ Plus ‘Caprica,’ ‘Chuck,’ and more

Lookin’ for a quick dose of nerdy TV news to spice up your breakfast? We’ve got ya covered …

- Wow! I never thought I would envy Howard Wolowitz, but oh how things have changed now that major sci-fi TV icons are lining up to hang with him. Star Trek‘s OG Sulu, George Takei, just signed to guest star on The Big Bang Theory this season. He’ll appear alongside Battlestar Galactica vet Katee Sackhoff as one half of Wolowitz’s conscience. Producers are also trying to get Evil Wil Wheaton back on the show. Sounds like a good year for the Big Bang. [TV Squad]

- Caprica returns to Syfy to wrap up the second half of its first season in January, but the network is still unsure if season two is in the cards. [Fancast]

- Here’s some better news: AMC has renewed The Walking Dead for a second season! The show premieres Halloween night. [IGN]

- Check out the first pics from the Chuck season four premiere featuring Linda Hamilton as Chuck’s big momma. [Spoiler TV]
