‘Smallville’ – ‘Harvest’ Review @ TV Squad

I’m covering the final season of Smallville weekly for TV Squad. Click the link below to check out my review of the show’s latest episode, ‘Harvest,’ and feel free to discuss the episode in the comment thread at the end of this post.

‘Smallville’ Season 10, Episode 6 Recap

Here’s an excerpt from the review:

A clan of killer cultists made trouble for Lois and Clark, and Tess discovered Alexander’s dark side on last night’s episode of ‘Smallville.’

Erica Durance’s spirited performance was the best thing about this ep’s goofy A plot, which featured a blue kryptonite-lovin’ religious cult bent on sacrificing Lois to their vengeful god. Durance’s eyes and voice really sold the terror in Lois’ heart when she was stuck under that raging blue fire and surrounded by an army of Cletuses and Jebediahs.

‘Smallville’ Season 10, Episode 5 Recap

Here’s an excerpt from the review:

Clark and Lois took a major step forward in their relationship this week. I’m sure most of you (non-spoiler readers) were shocked when Clark finally shared his secret with Lois at the end of the episode (I know I was). It’s great to see the show taking risks and moving the characters forward more than ever before. What a great scene. Erica Durance and Tom Welling did a fine job taking these characters to new heights in the ep’s final moments. Clark’s confession even made up for all the silliness that came before. Well, most of it, anyway.

‘Smallville’ – ‘Homecoming’ Review @ TV Squad

I’m covering the final season of Smallville weekly for TV Squad. Click the link below to check out my review of the show’s 200th episode, ‘Homecoming,’ and feel free to discuss the episode in the comment thread at the end of this post.

Smallville Season 10, episode 3 Recap

Here’s an excerpt from the review:

Clark took a stroll through the past (and the future) as ‘Smallville’ reached another milestone – it’s 200th episode – and The Blur finally learned what it takes to be a Superman.

‘Homecoming’ was a fun and emotional ride. It was also warm, compelling and pretty easy to follow – which is rarely the case when shows zip back and forth through time more than Bill & Ted in a broken phone booth (hello, ‘The Event’).

‘Smallvile’ Season 10, Episode 3 Recap

Here’s an excerpt from the review:

Fying lessons! Superhero confessions! Bondage gear! This is shaping up to become one of the best and most enjoyable seasons of ‘Smallville’ ever. It’s too bad Clark will be flying away from our TV screens for good at the end of it, but at least the show is going out on a high note with more fun stories and scenes inspired by its DC Comics source material.

Two of the most important women in Clark’s life returned to Metropolis last night – Lois and Kara. Seeing Lois show up at the press conference at the start of the episode was a big relief. I don’t think anyone wanted to sit through another handful of episodes with Clark pining away as she went on some dubious African adventure.

‘Smallville’ – ‘Shield’ Review @ TV Squad

‘Smallville’ Season 10, Episode 2 Recap

Here’s an excerpt from the review:

It looked as if ‘Smallville’ was speeding straight back to standalone story territory this week after last Friday’s dark season premiere, but ‘Shield’ had a lot more to offer than the average “Clark vs. the freak-of-the-week” plot.

First off, the episode delivered an iconic villain with DC Comics baddie Deadshot/Floyd Lawton (Bradley Stryker). Deadshot wasn’t the only comic book character who leaped from the funnypages and onto the screen this week. We also got a visit from conservative cutie Cat Grant (Keri Lynn Pratt) and saw the return of Carter Hall/Hawkman (Michael Shanks), Rick Flag (Ted Whittal) and Bette/Plastique (Jessica Parker Kennedy).

‘Smallville’ Season 10, Episode 1 (Season Premiere) Recap [TV Squad]

Here’s a snippet from the review:

In the opening hour of its 10th and final season, ‘Smallville’ quickly tied up the hanging threads from last season’s cliffhanger finale and flew, or leaped, in a dark new direction.

Clark Kent will face a great evil before he becomes a true hero, or so he was told by a disappointed Jor-El while stuck in the void between life and death in the premiere’s opening minutes.

Premiere Trailer Trifecta: ‘Smallville,’ ‘Caprica,’ and ‘Supernatural’

The fall premieres continue tonight with the return of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia on FX. Were just as excited about seeing Charlie huff more spray paint as the next guy, but the date we’re really looking forward to Sept. 24 – that’s the night two of our favorite shows, Smallville and Supernatural, return to TV!

The TV gods will smile upon us again on Oct. 5, the night Caprica heads back to Syfy to wrap up its first season. Here’s hoping Syfy surprises everyone and gives the show a season 2 renewal. Caprica might not be the most popular show on the cable network, but it’s easily one of the best.

Head after the jump for a feast of new promos and trailers for Smallville, Supernatural and Caprica, and let us know: which fall premiere are you looking forward to the most?

  • Did you know that Communitys Donald Glover wrote a spec script for The Simpsons or that there’s a group of crazy nerds campaigning to get him to play Goldie Wilson in a Back to the Future musical? Learn about all that and more with a great Glover interview on the latest Nerdist podcast.
  • I know we posted about these yesterday, but here’s another link to the new Smallville teasers featuring the Super Suit and more goodies.
  • Tiny Entourage is so wrong and so boring and so unfunny that is has to be seen.

Head back to TV DeathRay every Tuesday and Thursday for more Linkables.

Morning Blast: James Cameron, ‘Smallville,’ Marvel, ‘Terra Nova,’ and More

Here’s a quick dose of nerd TV news to spice up your breakfast.

- Alan Ritchson, who plays Aquaman on Smallville, says his appearance in the show’s upcoming final season will be … wait for it …. Very dark! He says: “Aquaman is such a bubble-gummy type of character [who] doesn’t get a lot of respect as a superhero, so to be able to come and play a darker side is going to be a lot of fun.” [E!]

- Marvel Comics’ Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada says we could see some live-action TV shows based on Marvel properties heading to TV in the very near future [MTV]

- Awww, The Big Bang Theory‘s Kaley Cuoco broke her leg in a horse race this weekend. She missed a taping of the show and will be written out of an episode this season. [THR]
