Interview: David Blue Previews ‘Stargate Universe’ Season 2

I spoke with David Blue of Stargate Universe recently about the show’s second season (premiering tonight on Syfy) and the history of the Stargate franchise for a post I wrote for TV Squad.

You’ll find the full interview below. We talked about his favorite episode, the challenges of season 2, and the new developments in store for David’s character, Eli Wallace. (Don’t forget to check out my interview with SGU co-creator Brad Wright).

Mike: I’m a big fan of the show, and I’m really looking forward to season 2.

David Blue: Yeah, me too!

Let me start by asking you kind of a general question: Why should people tune in to season 2 of SGU?

Oh, that’s not a high-pressure question at all!

Yeah, you’re welcome!

Well, from the beginning I think we really fell into the groove that is SGU, you know. I think that people are starting to catch on that we’re not trying to rip off SG-1 or Atlantis or Battlestar. We’re our own show, and now that people are comfortable in that, we can kind of explore. And I think that season 2 has a lot of the elements that people have grown to love, like a lot of the interesting character developments, amazing action, more aliens and special effects. Script-wise, because we don’t get to see a lot of the shows before they air, I think season 2 is some of the best stuff we’ve done. I know for a fact that episode six is one of my favorites that we’ve ever done.

Interview: ‘Stargate Universe’ Co-Creator Brad Wright Previews Season 2

I got a chance to speak with Stargate Universe co-creator Brad Wright about the show’s second season, premiering Tuesday night on Syfy. I interviewed Wright for a feature I wrote for TV Squad about the evolution of the Stargate franchise and what fans can expect from SGU this year. Read on below for the interview. (Head back to TV DeathRay on Tuesday for an interview with David Blue, who plays Eli Wallace on SGU.)

Mike: Why should people tune in to watch season 2 of Stargate Universe?

Brad Wright: I think season 2 is going to be answering a lot of questions that were building up and that people may have been wanting to know the answers to all through season 1, the biggest of which is “What is this mission all about?” and “What was this ship launched for to begin with?”

If season 1 was “We’re stuck on a runaway train and we don’t even know where it’s going,” then in season 2 we figure out how to steer the train and drive the train, and, of course, the question still remains whether or not we should, but also what the mission is, what The Destiny was launched for, and with that, our characters begin to understand that this isn’t all about getting home anymore.

‘Glee’ Season 2 Preview: More Singing, More Dancing And … Sunshine Corazon!

The day we’ve been waiting for is finally upon us, fellow Gleeks — the Glee season premiere airs tonight. Our favorite ragtag bunch of talented misfits will return to our screen, probably get a few more Slushees to the face and, oh yeah, sing and dance too. (I don’t think that information requires a spoiler alert. The following tidbits might, so, SPOILER ALERT!)

Here’s the official description for tonight’s premiere ep, “Audition,” according to TV Guide Online:

Season two begins with more budget cuts looming and the glee kids reeling from their loss at Regionals. There are new members to recruit, including Sunshine Corazon (Charice) and Sam (Chord Overstreet), but Rachel and Finn don’t see eye to eye on them. Meanwhile, McKinley High has a new football coach, Shannon Beiste (Dot Marie Jones), who immediately shows herself to be a threat both to the glee club and the Cheerios.

First of all — Sunshine Corazon? Really? OK, moving on.

‘Fringe’ Season 3 Preview: Everyone’s Seeing Double

Season three of Fringe premieres Thurs., Sept. 23 at 9PM ET on Fox. To say I’m looking forward to it would be a serious understatement. It’s the one show that’s held my attention from the moment it premiered in Sept. 2008, and it’s also my teenage son’s favorite show — that’s just a bonus. Oh, the conversations we’ve had about Red Vines, Observers and Cortexiphan kids.

From the beginning, Fringe has drawn comparisons to The X-Files, and while I’m not convinced of the connection, I will say this: Fringe is populated by complex characters, an alt-world storyline that could evolve for years, and a mythology that isn’t dumbed down for viewers.

Premiere Trailer Trifecta: ‘Smallville,’ ‘Caprica,’ and ‘Supernatural’

The fall premieres continue tonight with the return of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia on FX. Were just as excited about seeing Charlie huff more spray paint as the next guy, but the date we’re really looking forward to Sept. 24 – that’s the night two of our favorite shows, Smallville and Supernatural, return to TV!

The TV gods will smile upon us again on Oct. 5, the night Caprica heads back to Syfy to wrap up its first season. Here’s hoping Syfy surprises everyone and gives the show a season 2 renewal. Caprica might not be the most popular show on the cable network, but it’s easily one of the best.

Head after the jump for a feast of new promos and trailers for Smallville, Supernatural and Caprica, and let us know: which fall premiere are you looking forward to the most?

The End is Nearer: ‘Caprica’ Returns to Syfy This October

Caprica showed a lot of promise during the first half of its freshman season. Much like Battlestar Galactica, the show’s first nine episodes offered a dark and uncompromising view of a culture gripped by fear and uncertainty and scrambling to protect the things that matter.

The show also introduced us to an amazing and ultra-stylized fantasy world where regular people could become super powered sci-fi gangsters, kingpins and mercenaries. Plus, it has robots! Killer robots!

So, yeah, I love the show, and I’m happy to hear that it’s heading back to Syfy a few months earlier than previously expected, Oct. 5 at 10 PM ET, to be exact. Head after the jump for more from Syfy about Caprica Season 1.5 and to view an awesomely violent sneak peek of the new season.

UPDATE: The season 1.5 premiere is directed by Daniel Graystone himself, Eric Stoltz! That’s a new shot of him working on the set up top.

Nathan Stark and His Beard Return to ‘Eureka’

It’s been a pretty shiny year for Eureka: the quirky dramedy is currently experiencing something of a creative resurgence with a risky reboot plot, and Syfy just renewed the show for a fifth season.

Syfy also recently  announced a handful of awesome guest stars for the show, including Marvel Comics king Stan Lee, Stargate Universe cast member Ming-Na, and The Guild’s Felicia Day. The guests will start rollin’ in this Friday with a special appearance from former series star Ed Quinn.

Quinn returns as Nathan Stark in this week’s episode, cleverly titled ‘The Ex-Files.’ It seems that Nathan, much like Smallville’s Lionel Luthor, has cheated death for a chance to screw with the show’s major players one more time. How’d he do it? We’re not sure, but something tells us it has something to do with his magical beard. Check out a clip of this Friday’s episode, which also features Jamie Ray Newman as Tess, after the jump, and enjoy Quinn’s appearance in the final shot.
